Storytime- during the last week of school

For my dear teacher friends during the last week of school… a script.
(I’ve been there. I get it.)

Okay.

I need everyone’s eyes and ears.
Good!
(Smile sweetly.)

Once upon a time, long ago…

Shhhhhhh. I need you to listen.
Okay.
(Smile.)

Once upon a time, long ago, there lived a woman…

Boys and girls!
Be quiet!
I mean it.
Now. Where were we?
(Pause. Regroup.)
Oh, yes…

Once upon a time, long ago, there lived a woman…

Shhhh!

…there lived a woman who loved…

(Stern look.)

Onceuponatimetherelivedawomanwholovedtotellstoriestochildren.

Shhhhh!
I promise you will love the story IF you would just be quiet!
(Deep breath.)

She loved to tell stories to children.
Stories of love…

(Stern look.)
(Forced smile.)

…stories of hope…

Shhhh!

…stories of peace…
Stories of PEACE!

(Book down.)
(Pace around room.)
(Whisper.)

Stories of peace…

(Almost crying now.)

…because she BELIEVED in peace.
She NEEDED peace.
PEACE AND QUIET!
Quiet?
QUIET!
I NEED PEACE AND QUIET!

(Regroup. Constrain self. Pray.)
(Whisper yell.)

Okay, everybody.
Zip. The. Lips.
Heads down.
NO talking.
I am trying to read a STORY!

(Deep breath.)
(Sweetly.)

Once upon a time, long ago, there lived a woman who loved to tell stories to wonderfully quiet children.

(Look lovingly at students.)

She read stories of love,
stories of hope,
stories of…

(Smiles.)

…peace,
and stories of children,
quiet children,
peaceful children,
children of hope,
children of…

SHHHHHH!
