The Unseen Companion- God with the Single Mother (Chicago, IL: Moody Publishers, 2017)

Single moms, you are not alone.

You may feel lonely, abandoned, overwhelmed, and ill-equipped in your life as a single mother, but you are not alone on this journey. God is WITH you, and if you are willing, He will help you build a strong home and legacy for your family.

As a former single mother, Michelle Lynn Senters understands you could use a little soul nourishment. In the Unseen Companion, she explores the ten needs every single mother has and asks, “God, where are you in this?”

Avoiding clichés and hurtful platitudes, Michelle offers true hope from God’s Word. Her reflections, seasoned with personal experience, will help you:

Trust that God sees your needs and can satisfy them
Develop a vibrant relationship with God’s Word
Avoid temptation and counterfeit solutions
Strengthen your resolve and confidence to raise children of faith
Read The Unseen Companion and receive the encouragement your heart longs to hear: “You can do this, God is with you, and He will lead your family in strength and love.”

Includes questions at the end of each chapter for reflection, journaling, or group discussion.

What People are Saying:

This is so much more than another heroic story of overcoming tragedy and difficulty. Michelle elevates God’s story above her own. She focuses so clearly how God showed up in every plot twist in her own story. She has written a book that goes beyond hope and inspiration to actually bring the reader closer to God. The reader will find a path to follow to manage emotions, overcome hurt, and allow God to supply all needs. I recommend this book to every woman who wants to recog- nize the voice and handprint of God in her everyday life.

  1. Dear Michelle,

I was given your book by a friend. I think she said she is the sister of a friend of yours. Honestly, I resisted reading it at first, not wanting to admit that this is my life now… In every way a single mom of 4 although I am not technically single, as I am married to a man who left me for another woman and is currently residing with her. After 8 months he shows no sign of desire to quite his ways and reconcile. Now I am stuck between 2 horrible choices in which I feel like I lose either way. Staying married to my husband who I feel is not asking for a divorce only because he likes having me as a backup plan, or getting a divorce….which my church does not support (despite the fact that my husband has left me for this other woman) and would then ask me to step down from the ministries which I love being a part of (youth leader and worship team). Plus they feel remarriage after divorce is wrong as well… so I am wrestling with the idea that If I do get divorce I am expected to stay single forever. I believe in some ways I would lose a big part of my support system if I choose divorce (even though he has already left me and is living with his girlfriend) Of course, if my husband would ask me for a divorce it wouldn’t be an issue with anyone. That just seems wrong to me…..

I know you are very busy, but I am trying to find wisdom in a multitude of counsellors and So I would love to know your thoughts on it. My Pastor is against divorce, even in my situation, my Christian counsellor is in favor of it, saying my husband has already broken the covenant so there is nothing for me to uphold anymore…. My heart wants to go her way, but I also feel the weight of my Pastor’s and churches’ expectations very heavily.

These last 8 months have been some of the worst months of my life. The heartache and loneliness I have and am experiencing is unbearable at times. And it is frustrating to me that there seem to be no ministries in our area meant to support women in situations like mine.

Your book had been so encouraging. My favorite part of your book is the fact that you apply lots of scripture to each situation . In those words, I find a balm to my aching heart. I am planning to buy a coupe copies to share with some a couple other single mama friends of mine.

I was on your website today to find the printable list of scripture you mentioned in your resources in the back of your book, but was unable to find that on your website. I am sure it is there, I just didn’t see it. Could you send me the direct link for those?

  2. I loved the book and plan to recommend it to moms in involved in our women’s ministry. Great use of Scriptire to convey truth! Thank you for your investment in growing stronger moms.
